Comprehension Strategies
We have been learning the following strategies to help us understand what we have read:
Activating Prior Knowledge
Activating prior knowledge is when you think about all the things you already know about a topic. Good readers activate their prior knowledge before and during reading. It helps you to make new knowledge. Activating prior knowledge helps you to make connections with the book you are reading.
Visualising
Good readers visualize when they are reading. This means that they create a picture in their head. Authors choose words to describe things. A good reader will use the author's words to help create the picture in their head. Visualising helps them to understand what they have read.
